In ancient times, moving large and heavy objects might require hundreds or even thousands of workers. With massive manpower, moving such loads was often unachievable and could result in injuries and fatalities. It was against this backdrop that motor bearings came into being.

Early bearings only have an outer ring. Later, an inner ring was added to extend service life and reduce wear. Balls were then joined, bringing dramatic improvements to mechanical performance. However, gaps between components allowed sand and dust to get inside easily, which could cause components to go off and cause and trigger failures. Galileo devised a solution by adding cages to constrain the balls, enabling them to move in a regular raceways. As production and living standards advanced, higher requirements emerged for rotational speed, service life and stability. Lubricating oils and greases were applied to raceways, while sealing rings and dust shields were fitted externally. Thus modern industrial bearings took shape.
